The Masonry Educators' Workshop (MEW - formerly called the University Professor's Masonry Workshop, but was recently renamed to be clear that all educators are welcome) is being held March 9-11 in beautiful Tampa Florida.

Textbooks, Course Notes and More


TMS offers a wide range of educational books and downloads to help in the classroom or the office. Many of these publications are available at substantial discounts to Members, and often at 50% off when ordered for a class by a professor, student group, or a masonry association for a specific masonry course. Click the links below for additional information on some of these resources:

  • TMS 402/602, Building Code Requirements and Specification for Masonry Structures - A must for designing structural masonry. Referenced by the International Building Code for the design and construction of masonry. 
      
  • Masonry Designers' Guide 2013 -The definitive guide on the TMS 402/602, filled with discussion on all major aspects of the Code and the Specification and dozens of detailed design examples
     
  •  Masonry Course Notes - These masonry course notes were developed for use in semester-long, undergraduate or a graduate course in masonry as part of a civil engineering or architectural engineering curriculum.  Selected parts of the notes can also be used in architecture or construction courses. They comprise 25 lectures (plus a list of references), each intended for presentation in about 75 minutes.
     
  • Coming Late Spring 2018 - Masonry Structures Behavior and Design, 4th Edition -The long-awaited update to this popular textbook has been revised to reflect the design provisions in the 2016 TMS 402/602 Building Code Requirements and Specification for Masonry Structures. Final revisions are underway, and the new text will be available late Spring.

 

  •  Virtual Masonry Laboratory Website - These "virtual laboratories" were developed to enhance Student's understanding of basic masonry principles which govern design and construction of masonry structures.

Mark you Calendars for 13NAMC

June 16-19, 2019, Salt Lake City


Preparations are well underway for the 13th North American Masonry Conference, and a new website is being constructed at this time. As we work on that, mark your calendars for:

  • Abstract deadline: July 31, 2018
  • Abstract acceptance: August 31, 2018
  • Manuscript deadline: November 5, 2018

The Masonry Society is now accepting nominations and applications for a number of awards including:

 

Scholarships & Grants

The Masonry Society is now accepting applications the Clayford T. Grimm, P.E. Student Scholarship.The Scholarship was established in 2007 to honor the memory of Clayford T. Grimm and is intended to be awarded annually to a Master's level graduate student who is conducting research in masonry. The student's investigation can be on masonry materials, structures, construction, or architecture and must be performed under the direction of a member of The Masonry Society. The current value of the annual scholarship is $1,000 US. Applications for the award are due on July 31st of each year.

In addition, the National Concrete Masonry Association Education and Research Foundation offers two $2,500 scholarships awarded for each academic year as noted here.

The NCMA Foundation is also accepting proposals from scientists, engineers, educators and other professionals associated with the manufactured concrete masonry and hardscapes industries. Click here for details.

Publishing Opportunities - TMS Journal now Indexed

The Masonry Society continually accepts manuscripts for consideration in its peer reviewed Journal. As recently reported, TMS is pleased to report that TMS Journal is now indexed and abstracted in Emerging Sources Citation Index by Clarivate Analytics. Please consider Journal for publishing research findings, technical papers, and general interest papers on Masonry.
