CMU Safety Release
The Day Reporting Center is a public safety facility that is intended to help people get their lives back on track after release from custody. Its CMU units consist of a repeating pattern made up of 3 separate colors, each with a ground face and split faced finish. However, when placed, it has the appearance of a random pattern. The result was a look of a variegated mass that not only anchors the building, but also provides substantial visual interest. Read more.

TEK 18-01: Evaluating Compressive Strength of Concrete Masonry
spirit cruise
Compressive strength of CMU is one of the key characteristics of CMU that is used in the design of masonry assemblies. TEK 18-1D has been updated following the changes under ASTM C90 which now requires the compressive strength of mortar types M, S, and N be a minimum of 2000 psi. The TEK note now comes with a companion spreadsheet that evaluates the compressive strength of CMU using the “Unit Strength Method”. The unit strength method is the least expensive method to use when determining the specified compressive strength (f’m) of a masonry assembly. The method takes into account mortar type used and the measured compressive strength of a CMU. For more information see TEK 18-01D “Evaluating the Compressive Strength of Concrete Masonry”, and companion sheet.
