Obituary: Thomas Barton Bell

Thomas Barton Bell, age 85 of Mound passed peacefully on January 13th 2017. Tom was well known in the aggregate and ready mix circles around the Twin Cities, and through the companies he worked for, a longtime member of the Aggregate Ready Mix Association and the Minnesota Concrete & Masonry Contractor's Association. He worked for Wyatt Brothers RM, Arsenal Sand & Gravel, and retired from Cemstone. Tom served on many MC&MCA committees, but loved to be on the convention planning committee. More times than not he was able to convince the committee that a dance band was what was needed and he and Jeanne would dance the night away! Tom enjoyed the MC&MCA general membership events and one night he was snowed-in following an event. He and his faithful truck made it not too far down the road, booked a room, called Jeanne, and Tom went to work from there the next day. Tom produced the annual MC&MCA directory singlehandedly for many years! He called all the members to get the correct company information, made all his lists in pencil, and turned over the “ready to be printed” copy to the office. Sometimes referred to as the Cowboy due to wearing a trademark Stetson, Tom was a highly-respected salesman who knew all aspects of the industry after working there throughout most of his adult life. A woodworking hobbyist he loved having a slice of Santa's workshop in his own basement. Preceded in death by his parents Ralph and Vier (Rule) Bell; siblings Wendy Bruck, Harry and Linda Bell. Survived by wife Jeanne (Brady) Bell; siblings Richard and Christy Bell; children Bonnie, Bradley (Gina), James (Julie) and Bambi Bell; stepchildren Katy (Michael) Roelofs, Jim (Corrine) Brady, Marie (Tim) LaPlant, Bill (Betsy) Brady, Tom Brady; numerous loving grandchildren; and great grandchildren. A remembrance service was held on 1/18/2017. Memorials may be made to the Ophthalmology Teaching and Research Department at the University of Minnesota.
