Basalite Concrete Products concrete masonry production plant in Tracy, California, has become the first plant certified through the NCMA/ICPI Plant Certification Program. This achievement demonstrates a commitment to quality control for certified plants in the production of dry-cast concrete products. The program requires plants to implement and follow a rigorous quality control program and be audited regularly to ensure compliance. Congratulations to Basalite on this accomplishment. On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, days after a wood-framed retail-apartment complex under construction in Oakland, CA, was destroyed for the second time in a year, five firefighters were injured in a fire that destroyed four three-story multi-family homes in Waterbury, CT, exemplifying the danger with wood-framed residential buildings. Read more.

Architecture Billings Index continues to reflect healthy construction market

The AIA's Architecture Billings Index (ABI) score shows that design services at architecture firms are in demand. In November, the score was 55.0, up from a score of 51.7 in the previous month. The score reflect an increase in design services from U.S. architecture firms. The new projects inquiry index and the new design contracts index both rose slightly from the previous month as well. Read more.
