With the NCMA Midyear Meeting in Toronto wrapping up this week, the main themes of the week focus on strengthening the industry's future. NCMA's 100 years highlights "1943-1968:  WWII to Space Age" 
As NCMA prepares to celebrate its 100-Year Anniversary in 2018, the association is developing a series of videos to commemorate the industry's history. The second 25-year increment of history "1943-1968: WWII to Space Age" video.premiered during the NCMA Midyear Meeting this past week. The first 25- year video can be seen here. Plan to be a part of this spectacular celebration at a gala event during the NCMA Midyear Meeting, July 29 - August 3, 2018, in Chicago, Illinois. Concrete Masonry Designs

Eliza Pierce Elementary School received an award from the Concrete Masonry Association of California and Nevada (CMACN) and the American Institute of Architects' California Council's (AIACC)  2017 Concrete Masonry Design Awards program. Concrete masonry played a key part in the design of the school. Read more
10th Annual HNA Hardscape Project Awards due September 11

HNA’s Project Awards recognize outstanding hardscape projects by contractors in residential and commercial/industrial applications. The early-bird entry deadline for the 10th Annual HNA Awards is fast approaching! Iowa State students' "Amphi-Block" takes top prize

Students from Iowa State University took the top prize at the NCMA Foundation Unit Design Competition during the NCMA Midyear Meeting.  The students' unit ‘Amphi-Block’ is designed to provide acoustic enhancements in theatres, music studios and concert venues. Separately, each block boasts a unique configuration that when placed together provides a system that has various acoustic applications. Congratulations to Ball State University and North Carolina State University students for participating in the competition finals.

 Bettinger receives prestigious AIA Florida Presidential Citation

NCMA erroneously published a photo last week of Jerry Painter instead of Chris Bettinger receiving the prestigious AIA Florida Presidential Citation during the AIA Florida Convention last month. The awards recognizes Chris, "For supporting the AIA Florida strategic initiative of 'exploring and promoting international opportunities' in Cuba in conjunction with Oldcastle while developing and cultivating relationships with design industry colleagues in that island country."  Congratulations Chris!  Read more
Construction starts rise 6% in July
The construction industry has its collective eye on public works and transportation infrastructure projects — and the possibility of more to come with President Donald Trump's $1 trillion infrastructure spending program. What are architectural concrete masonry units? Architectural concrete masonry units are units that provide a variety of textured finishes and can be used in both exterior and interior applications. The architectural units are made with dimensions that maintain modularity during installation with the added benefit of achieving an architectural finished surface. Some architectural unit types include, split-face units, scored units, and ribbed units.
