2016 ICON-Xchange B2B offers networking opportunities

L.A. files $20-million lawsuit against Da Vinci Apartments developer over huge downtown fire
The Los Angeles city attorney has filed a $20-million lawsuit against the developer of the downtown Da Vinci Apartments project, claiming its negligence was responsible for the damage caused by a massive 2014 fire at the project construction site. The Dec. 8 fire destroyed the 75,000-square foot, seven-story complex alongside the 110 Freeway. The blaze forced the closure of the freeway and the intense heat cracked at least 160 windows at the headquarters of the Los Angeles Department of Water and Power. Read more.

Jan. starts up 2% as construction is 'gradually regaining upward momentum'

According to Dodge Data & Analytics, January's monthly construction starts increased 2% from December to a seasonally adjusted annual rate of $607.9 billion, with all gains attributed to the residential sector.  Read more

Manufacturing Economic News:  Manufacturing Output
National Association of Manufacturers 
Manufacturing production rose 0.5 p2ercent in January, rebounding from softness in the second half of 2015 and providing a little encouragement at the start of 2016. Manufacturing activity remains softer than desired, particularly given difficulties in growing export demand and with falling commodity prices. Across the past year, manufacturing output has increased 1.2 percent, representing some progress from the 0.5 percent pace in the prior report. Yet, production has slowed considerably since January 2015, when the year-over-year rate was a more robust 4.3 percent. At the same time, total industrial production jumped 0.9 percent in January, reversing three consecutive months of declines.  Read more.
