Concrete Masonry offers fire, seismic and blast protection
Concrete Masonry Designs
Concrete Block Wall
Seeking a 50-year life expectancy, along with a requirement for low-maintenance building materials and structures on base, the Department of Defense relies on loadbearing masonry envelopes for the new buildings on the Marine Corps Base at Camp Pendleton, CA. And with tight site restrictions, the concrete masonry helps reduce use of the limited land available by minimizing the building standoff distances from parking and roadways set by blast resistance standards. It also protects life and property, thanks to its resistance to fire, seismic and other extreme loads. Read more.

Can I use concrete masonry to control noise?
Solutions Center Logo
Yes. Concrete masonry performs very well for noise control. Two important properties to consider as it relates to noise control are sound transmission and sound absorption. Concrete masonry is an ideal material for noise control considering both properties; it can act as a barrier to diffuse noise over a wide range of frequencies; and can also be an effective sound absorption material. For more information on CMU and noise control see TEK 13-2A “Noise Control With Concrete Masonry”
