Morning Safety Reminders

CEO Corner

Every morning on every job, our foremen lead a 5–10 minute crew safety reminder class specific to that project. They discuss the changing job and site conditions from the day before, areas to avoid where excavations or other activities may be taking place such as overhead work, etc.

No masons can access scaffolds unless they know that the scaffold is green tagged and is signed in for that day. Only scaffold erectors can access scaffolds with red tags, which happens when scaffolds are in erection or dismantle status.

No employee will be in trouble for stopping work due to concerns of any possible unsafe condition; they will be rewarded if an unsafe condition is found and corrected.

Also, every morning before starting work (usually around 6:30 AM), the crew leaders receive a morning text. The text goes out to all masons, laborer foremen, Lull drivers, and other key crew personnel. The texts differ daily, but focus on the three most important factors for success on the job: SAFETY, QUALITY and PRODUCTIVITY in that order. The texts have:

  • Reminder to hold morning safety talks and that safety must be first always
  • Reminder to take pride in your work and do a quality job
  • Reminder to set up ahead correctly to avail of good productivity
  • A closing thank you from the company to the crews for their hard work and efforts

We feel, and we have experienced, that these procedures have made us a safer and a better company.
