Minnesota Concrete Council Update

December 20 Breakfast Meeting: Petrography - What it Can and Can't Tell You
Concrete petrography can be a useful tool to gain an understanding of the performance of concrete and other cement-based construction materials. Cracks. Blisters. Spalling. Scaling. Delamination. Low Strength. These are sources of dissatisfaction for owners and aggravation for contractors involved in concrete construction. Because petrography is often used to investigate the causes of these problems, you should understand how petrography works and what its capabilities and limitations are. This presentation will briefly discuss the basics of concrete petrography and then concentrate on a few subjects (such as w/cm estimates) which petrographers CAN tell you and determine the durability of concrete.

ICF Contractor Training Course
MCC is partnering with the Aggregate & Ready Mix Association of MN, the National Ready Mixed Concrete Association and the Insulating Concrete Forms Manufacturing Association to sponsor an ICF Contractor Training Course on January 15, 2019.  The half-day training will be held at Braun Intertec in Bloomington.  Cost to attend is $45.

Lighter, faster and more cost effective than most other forms of construction, Insulating Concrete Forms (ICFs) are quickly becoming the construction method of choice for all forms of construction including single and multi-family, hotels, schools, offices – all forms of residential and commercial construction. Concrete contractors, masons and framers have an opportunity to learn another trade to compete in today’s competitive construction environment. This course will give you the basic training you need to begin building with one of the fastest growing building systems on the market – ICFs.

The objective of this course is to:
• Demonstrate the specific characteristics of ICFs
• Describe the benefits of ICF construction
• Explain the construction advantages and efficiencies
• Present the installation requirements and techniques
• Show how to expand your business with ICF technology
