October 11 Breakfast Meeting: As-Cast Concrete Surface Finishes (Specifications, Defects & Repairs)
"As-Cast Concrete Surface Finishes: Specifications, Defects and Repairs" will be presented by Kim Basham, Ph.D., P.E., FACI (KB Engineering, LLC). In this presentation, hear about common specified requirements for as-cast concrete, architectural, smooth-rubbed and grout-cleaned surface finishes. Learn about as-cast surface defects and anomalies including honeycomb, air voids or bug holes, sand streaking, offsets, and more. Dr. Basham will also discuss: how to avoid and minimize surface defects and anomalies, expectations, repairs and ACI 347.3R-13 Guide to Formed Concrete Surfaces.

MCC is Accepting Scholarship Applications
MCC is committed to encouraging people to pursue careers in concrete-related fields and to provide opportunities for those people to enhance their level of professionalism and industry engagement via scholarships. MCC’s Scholarship Committee and the Board of Directors implemented changes to the scholarship program in 2017 that significantly increased the amount of scholarship funding MCC sponsors each year. MCC has its own scholarships for engineering students, construction management students, vo-tech and community college students, and scholarships for high school students. MCC continues to support the concrete finisher and laborer apprenticeship programs as well.

In all cases, the applicants must either be Minnesota residents OR they must be attending a post-secondary education program located in Minnesota.  Application deadline is December 1.  Please see the MCC website for additional information.

November 8th MN Concrete Forum: Construction in Minnesota - Current Trends and Realities
Minnesota is now experiencing its second-longest period of employment expansion in state history. Unemployment is at record lows throughout the state, job vacancies are at record highs, and a wide variety of industries are growing. Among these growing industries is Construction, which has added nearly 40,000 jobs since the Great Recession. Yet challenges loom, most notably workforce shortages. This presentation will highlight current realities and trends in Minnesota’s labor market, with a special focus on the construction industry sector. The presenter will be Timothy O’Neill, Regional Labor Market Analyst at the Minnesota Department of Employment and Economic Development.

November Breakfast Meeting - TWO HOUR ETHICS PROGRAM
This will be an EXTENDED, two-hour ethics presentation by Jeff Coleman, PE, FACI (The Coleman Law Firm).  The presentation will satisfy the requirement for two hours of ethics continuing education credits.  REGISTER QUICKLY!  This event typically sells out within weeks of registration opening.  This presentation has been approved for two AIA LU's. All attendees will be given a certificate of attendance for two hours.
