Professor Thomas Fisher
Professor & Director of the Minnesota Design Center at the U of M School of Architecture

MC&MCA is excited to have secured the speaking services of Thomas Fisher, Professor and Director of the Minnesota Design Center and the Dayton Hudson Chair in Urban Design at the University of Minnesota School of Architecture as our banquet keynote speaker. Professor Fisher is a graduate of Cornell University in architecture and Case Western Reserve University in intellectual history. He is the past editorial director of Progressive Architecture magazine. He has written over 50 book chapters or introductions and over 400 articles in professional journals and major publications. He has lectured at 36 universities and over 150 professional and public meetings. He will be speaking on updates to his latest book “On-Demand Cities,” featuring the design and rebuild of downtown areas based on limited auto flow and more and better use of downtown parking ramps.

Silent Auction Donation Request

Each year the MC&MCA, through its Excellence Awards Banquet Planning Committee, requests its members to donate a “silent auction” item for the banquet or donate money to be used to purchase an item or items for the auction.  The attendees of the banquet, including guests of contractors, architect judges, speakers, and other interested parties thoroughly enjoy the “thrill of the hunt” as they bid on items that they so deeply want or need! The Fun is only heightened by the liquor involved!

We are providing a special silent auction form in order to better organize this year’s effort! Please take the time and effort to donate an item or items to the auction. Please use this form to let us know what is coming so we can fill in around the volunteer efforts happening in advance of the banquet.

Items can be dropped off at the MC&MCA office in Roseville during regular business hours through Friday, February 15. We will be accepting donated gifts at the banquet the night of the event as well.

Examples of donated items that were successful in the past include dinner gift cards, sports tickets, fishing/hunting items, wine/liquor baskets, collectibles, women’s designer handbags, brewery tours, golf stuff, movie tickets, headphones, portable speakers, Fitbits, and items for the cabin and the backyard! Two new hot activity venues include indoor Topgolf in Brooklyn Center and indoor skydiving next to Ridgedale Mall. Those would make excellent gift cards!

Can’t make the call? Donate money and we will make the call for you. Donated monies will go towards silent auction items or banquet sponsorship. Banquet sponsorship pays for architect judge’s dinners, speaker fees, and audio/visual.
