MC&MCA Has Three Trustee Openings

You may already know that MC&MCA has appointing authority for a number of employer trustee positions on union benefit funds.  Due to recent changes, there are presently three openings for MC&MCA trustees:  The Laborers Health and Welfare, the Laborers Pension, and the Cement Masons Pension.

The Board of Trustees oversees the operations of the pension or health fund, making decisions on subjects ranging from plan investments to benefit design.  Trustees make these decisions with the support of their follow trustees and professional advisors.  John Nesse or Martha Henrickson sit as a professional trustee on each of the MC&MCA benefit plans.  In addition, each plan has professional consultants who advise the trustees on their decisions.  Ideally, trustees are owners or senior management level employees of signatory contractors.  In addition to overseeing a critical part of our industry, trusteeship can be an interesting way to build relationships and learn more about how our unionized industry functions.  The time commitment varies, but is most often about 4-8 hours per quarter.

MC&MCA would like to congratulate Steve Hagen of B&D Masonry, who recently retired as a trustee on the Minnesota Laborers Pension Fund.  He served as a trustee on the fund for about thirty years.  Speaking of his time as a trustee, he said, “During my term as a management trustee on the Fund, I was given the opportunity to work with some of the country’s best financial and legal professionals.  This is an opportunity that most people will never have.  I also cherish the ability to assist in providing a pension for a large number of our on-site employees.  As I stated in my resignation letter, my wife and I will always enjoy the friendships we established during this journey.”
