MC&MCA Food 4 Thought November Event

Risk Control/Safety Consultant Chad Stuart of Cobb Strecker Dunphy & Zimmermann, Inc. delivered a presentation  entitled “Don’t Confuse Luck with Safety” at the November 15 “Food 4 Thought” session at the MC&MCA Roseville conference room.

Key points were:

· Are you focusing too much on safety and lacking attention to your total risk footprint?

· No need to get too fancy and confusing...Safety is simply the necessary precaution to specific risks that you encounter

· Establish Ground Rules for Safety

◦ Be Open to Possibility

◦ Everyone Participates

◦ You have a Voice – Speak Up!

◦ Listen to Other Ideas

· Challenge the Idea, not the Person

· Eliminate Poor Mentoring

· If You Want Someone to be Safe, You Must Define what that Means in Observable Action

Bottom Line:  Safety starts at the top and works it way down—not from the jobsite up.  Safety needs to be a company priority!
