This presentation will provide an overview of the repair and evolution of the repair of historic masonry high-rise buildings with specific examples of the distress being encountered by the presenters on buildings that have been maintained or exhibit little or no indications of potential deficiencies.  Many historic masonry high-rise buildings constructed in the 19th and 20th centuries have experienced significant distress resulting from a combination of factors.  Since the adoption of facade ordinances in municipalities such as Chicago and New York, and as well as smaller municipalities more recently, significant repair work has been performed on thousands of buildings throughout the United States. The most recent generation of repairs seems to be related to improper previous maintenance and/or concealed distress that is to date not detectable until failure occurs. .

While this seminar will be geared towards architects, engineers, construction managers, owners, general contractors, BAC signatory contractors, and anyone interested in masonry is also welcome to join.
