MASONRY MADNESS® Recap: Masonry's Biggest Competition Day of the Year

 

MASONRY MADNESS® happens once a year at World of Concrete in the Las Vegas Convention Center Bronze Lot. Thousands of spectators come together to watch action-packed masonry events take place, as the best of the masonry industry goes head-to-head in the attempts to be titled the champion. The four events that are on display each year are the Masonry Skills Challenge, MCAA’S FASTEST TROWEL ON THE BLOCK, The SPEC MIX Toughest Tender®, and The SPEC MIX Bricklayer 500® World Championship. Apprentices, masons, and tenders are put to the test to see who comes out on top.

South of 40 2020: The Biggest One Yet!

 

What a great time we had at the 2020 South of 40 Event held at Drai's in Las Vegas! The Mason Contractors Association of America (MCAA), in conjunction with South of 40, hosted a great time in Las Vegas at the 2020 MCAA Convention during the World of Concrete/World of Masonry. The MCAA's South of 40 annual fundraising event was held Tuesday, February 4, 2020, at Drai's After Hours Vegas! We had the BIGGEST year to date! We had so many people attend. I felt as though all I did was shake hands and talk! Sponsorships were at an all-time high. It is an awesome feeling to know you are having a great time where "Vegas Icons" have once gathered.

When it comes to building and construction, masons have one of the most important and difficult jobs. They build structures, sometimes enormous buildings, from individual blocks or units. As masonry usually forms a structure from the base up, it is vital that each unit be perfectly level and plumb. Going out of level, even the smallest amount, can result in instability for the rest of the structure. Therefore, it is important that a mason has the right tools on the job site to help ensure that each project they tackle is sound.
