Food 4 Thought - May 2017

This will be the last MC&MCA "Food 4 Thought" event until fall!
Two presentations will be given. Coffee and rolls will be provided.

Preservation is the Queen of Green: The greenest buildings today are those that already built. Nothing is more sustainable than preserving, restoring and repurposing existing buildings.
Better understanding of the preservation and maintenance is appropriate to all architects, even those designing new buildings. It helps to anticipate the potential issues and better prepare them to design new structures. Elena will touch on parts of her What Architects Need to Know about Masonry Restoration and Preservation seminar.

About the Presenter: Elena Peltsman, AIA CID NCARB has been the Marketing Director for the MC&MCA for 1.5 years. She was a senior Project Manager on South Quarter Phase IV, Minneapolis, with the award winning developer Aeon.

BIM for Masonry: The construction industry is changing. As project design and delivery systems evolve, the design and construction community rely on software to improve production, generate material quantities for purchase orders, improve communication, and prevent conflicts in the field. BIMforMasonry.org is an alliance of organizations encouraging BIM solutions for the design and construction industry. To keep masonry relevant to the industry and at the fingertips of designers, BIM-M has tools to for both designers and contractors. This seminar will describe solutions to the lack of masonry in software, case studies, and how general contractors and masonry subcontractors are using BIM to improve efficiency and project workflows.

About the Presenter: Mark Swanson, AIA, CSI, LEED AP BD+C, is a licensed architect. As Minnesota Area Director of the International Masonry Institute, Mark provides technical consultations, plan reviews, jobsite troubleshooting and AIA continuing education seminars to the design and construction community.
