Last year Congress passed H.R. 320 and October 5, 2018 President Trump signed it into law – allowing the concrete block producers in the U.S. to organize a CMU (concrete masonry unit) Check-off Program. This program is the same as some well-known agriculture check-off programs for dairy producers (Got Milk?), beef producers (Beef, it’s what’s for Dinner) and pork producers (The other White Meat). Currently, the soft-wood association (promoting highrise engineered wood buildings) is raising $15 million a year. The CMU Check-off program is expected to collect $10 million a year and will be used to preserve and expand our markets where concrete block is utilized, monitor the codes to protect our customers and industry, and will fund propels from our concrete masonry community to grow our marketplace.
